Keywords are either a singular word or a phrase that is used to search for specific information in a search engine. Keywords are mainly popular words that can relate to many websites. For instance, if you are looking for a website about real estate, you could use keywords such as House, or phrases like Home for Sale. The most critical element of any search engine optimization campaign is keyword selection. Just what is search engine optimization? SEO is the practice of designing your website that is "user-friendly" to search engines.

Now that we know the purpose of the keywords, where do they go in your website? The keywords (single words and phrases) go in your Meta tags and your body text. Your website is described in your Meta tags (title, description, keywords). The body text is the primary text used on your web page.

The most common practice in the use of keywords is to use the keywords once in the Meta title, once or twice in the description, and using all variations of the keywords in the Meta "keywords." For instance, if your site focuses on "small business," your keywords might include the phrase "small business advice and resources." The keywords Meta would read: small business advice, small business, small business resources, business, business resources, business advice.

To target the right keywords and phrases for your website, select terms that best describe your products or services in a specific, yet simple way. And remember: use the keywords and phrases throughout your body text, known as "keyword density." By following a few simple SEO tactics, you will increase the search engine traffic to your website. There is no doubt that you will attract qualified prospects to your site, because they are looking for you by using selected and targeted keywords that are right for the site.
